Retired superstar Manny Ramirez made some interesting remarks about Derek Jeter during the NESN broadcast of the Red Sox Tigers match on Monday night at Fenway Park.
Ramirez was in Fenway, inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame, and then dropped in at the booth. There he seemed to imply that Derek Jeter couldn’t achieve the same level of awareness he played in another city.

In a conversation between former players Kevin Millar and Dennis Eckersley, Ramirez talked about Jeter’s career, saying, “If you had Jeter in Kansas City at the time, he was just a normal player.” did.
In the Yankees Legend and the first ballot Hall of Fame, both players have an incredible MLB career with 3,500 hits, 1,923 runs and an average batting average of .310. Not to mention his famous post-season exploit, he nicknamed him “November-san”.
Ramirez, on the other hand, has not been elected to the hall because he has been suspended multiple times for violating the league’s drug policy. However, his career was exemplary, with 555 home runs, an on-base percentage of .414, and a batting average of 55% better than the league average.
It seemed to be aimed at Jeter’s abilities, but the broader context of the quote is a broader commentary on the relative pressure of playing in Boston or New York:
“You have to understand this. If you haven’t played in Boston or New York, you’re not in Major League Baseball,” he said.
But Ramirez doesn’t really make sense. Boston and New York may get more media attention, but there are many major markets that are under pressure to win. For example, in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, expectations are often high.
Mike Trout is an Anaheim superstar as Ramirez was in Boston, and given his success in cities like Atlanta, only these two cities make up the “Big League.” Is not realistic to mean.

At least Ramirez didn’t hurt Derek Jeter’s career because he didn’t show the right amount of RE2PECT.
