The Los Angeles Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed the first death from the monkeypox virus in a county resident.
The resident was hospitalized with severe immunodeficiency.
“Public Health sends our deepest condolences and prayers to the families and friends who mourn the loss of loved ones,” the agency said in a statement.
No additional information about the case will be made public.

People with severely weakened immune systems who are suspected of having monkeypox are advised to seek prompt medical attention and treatment.
