Los Angeles Chargers star Justin Herbert appeared to suffer a painful rib injury in the team’s fourth quarter loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.
Herbert hit the quarterback with a shot off pass rusher Mike Danna. Clearly feeling uncomfortable, Herbert took the playoffs and then returned to the game. He was clearly injured, but was able to throw a 35-yard dot to DeAndre Carter to set the team’s next score.

The young quarterback found Joshua Palmer for a touchdown pass. The Chargers reduced the deficit to three, but onside he failed to regain the ball with his kick.
Kansas City won 27-24.

Amazon’s Carissa Thompson said Herbert had an x-ray after the game. Chargers coach Brandon Staley said he will learn more about the injury on Friday, according to ESPN.
Herbert’s performance in the final four minutes of the game earned him the respect of the NFL community. He was clearly playing in pain and at one point couldn’t even attempt his first down for fear of being hit and aggravating his injury.
He finished the game 48-33 with 334 passing yards and three touchdown passing.

The Chargers fell 1-1 on the season. The Chiefs improved to 2-0 that year.
