Actors Anthony Rapp and Kevin Spacey testified in a civil trial earlier this month about accusations that they had an encounter in 1986, when Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26. Climbing onto the bed, Mr. Spacey climbed over him with his groin pressed against the side of his hips. Spacey denied that the encounter had taken place.
The judge ultimately dismissed Rapp’s allegation of knowingly inflicting emotional distress, so the trial was based solely on Battery’s claim.
“I knew something was really wrong”
Rapp said he met Spacey in 1986 after a party at Spacey’s Manhattan apartment.
Mr. Rapp testified that Mr. Spacey appeared in the bedroom doorway after the other guests had left, appearing unsteady on his feet and cloudy in his eyes. Mr. Spacey picked him up, Mr. Rapp testified, describing it as if the groom was carrying the bride over the threshold. “Heavy” was forced on him, Mr. Rapp said.
“Now I realize something is really wrong,” Rapp said, recalling the feeling of being frozen in place.
Rapp said he managed to wriggle out from under Spacey and lock himself in a nearby bathroom before leaving the apartment.
Rapp also testified about how the encounter affected him, saying it was the “most traumatic event” of his life. Rapp testified that he immediately recalls the 1986 encounter. Rapp testified.
“Never apologize for what you didn’t do”
When Spacey spoke out, he said he was confident Rapp’s account was not true. BuzzFeed news published That was in 2017, but the spokesperson advised him not to dispute the story.
Spacey testified, “I was inspired to apologize and learned my lesson.”
Mr. Spacey testified that he had never been alone with Mr. Rapp, and his lawyers tried in various ways to discredit Mr. Rapp’s testimony. They said no one came forward to confirm he or she attended the party Rapp described, and Spacey lived in a studio apartment with no separate bedroom.
Spacey’s attorney, Jennifer L. Keller, also claimed in court that Rapp had fabricated his story, borrowing details from “Precious Sons,” which ran on Broadway that year. She said a character in the play got drunk and mistook her son, played by Mr. Rapp, for his wife, picked him up and lay on top of him in a way that reflected Mr. Rapp’s allegations. He said his meeting with Spacey had nothing to do with the production of the play.
other witnesses
Both sides had Mr. Rapp testified on behalf of a forensic psychiatrist after evaluating him. A few days later, Dr. Lisa Roccio testified that she had delayed the onset of post-traumatic stress disorder, another Dr. Alexander Vardy disagreed, and Mr. Rapp instead had features of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. said.
Several witnesses have testified that Mr. Rapp told him about his encounter with Mr. Spacey years after he did.
Another of Spacey’s accusers, Andy Holtzman, testified that in 1981 Spacey touched his genitals and rubbed Holtzman’s groin, who was 27 at the time. Spacey denied the allegations.
