India said on Wednesday Corbevax, Biological E’s COVID-19 vaccine, can be given as a booster dose to people who have been vaccinated with the country’s other two leading injectables, Covaxin and AstraZeneca’s Covishield, since Friday.
Corbevax will be available to people aged 18 and older as a prevention booster six months after the second dose, the health ministry said in a letter to state officials on Aug. 8 and shared with reporters on Wednesday.

Cobishield is manufactured by the Seram Institute of India under license from AstraZeneca for the Indian market, while Bharat Biotech manufactures Covaxin.
India has so far delivered over 2 billion doses of COVID vaccine, including 113 million boosters. About 89% of Indians over the age of 12 have received two doses of her, according to the government.
With a population of around 1.4 billion, the country has reported more than 44 million coronavirus infections and 526,826 related deaths. The actual number is believed to be many times higher.
