Saturday’s 154th Belmont Stakes had no promise of a triple crown winner, but it wasn’t uncommon. He is a rare horse who has won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes and can still reach Belmont in the best possible way. Only 13 horses won all three races.
Rich Strike, the winner of the Kentucky Derby’s long shot, didn’t make it to Preakness last month, ending his triple crown chance. But he’s back in Belmont, and fans have met the grounds for the opportunity to see him add another victory to his triple-crown resume.
Our photographers Haiyun Jiang, Desiree Rios and Uli Seit were in Belmont Park to capture the energy of the day for both horses and humans.
