An Illinois senator faces federal bribery charges, including an alleged red light camera program.
Senator Emil Jones III (D-Chicago) has been accused of soliciting bribes from “Corporation A,” a Chicago-area group that offers automated traffic enforcement systems commonly known as “red light cameras.” . These cameras have enabled local authorities to enforce traffic violations and issue traffic tickets.
Jones introduced Senate Bill 1297 in early 2019. The bill would require the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to conduct a statewide study of automated traffic law enforcement systems, including red light cameras.
Later that year, Jones offered to protect certain red light cameras from the law in exchange for a bribe, according to court documents released Tuesday.
Fox News Digital reached out to Jones for comment.
The Federal Attorney’s Office did not name “Company A,” but multiple news outlets, including the Chicago Tribune, reported the company as SafeSpeed LLC.

The company issued a statement late Tuesday, showing that one former employee “has been involved in criminal activity and has recruited outside individuals to further his selfish activities.”
“Their actions were clearly for their own benefit, were done without Safespeed’s knowledge, and undermined the important work Safespeed does,” the company said.
“Safespeed builds its business on integrity and ethics and holds its employees and representatives to the highest standards of behavior and ethics. It ended a long time ago,” the company said.
