Republicans at Capitol Hill set aside the partnership on Thursday following President Biden’s COVID-19 diagnosis.
Republican lawmakers gave warm words to the 79-year-old Biden, who said the White House “experienced very mild symptoms.”
“I’m sorry to hear that President Biden is COVID-19 positive,” said Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. “I wish him a quick recovery.”

Such points came from both moderate and hard-line conservatives alike. Senator Ted Cruz of R-Texas said he and his family would pray for the president.
“God’s healing hand is on him, Covid may pass quickly, and he may recover quickly and completely,” Cruz said.
Meanwhile, Senator Lindsey Graham (RS.C.) said Biden wanted to recover soon.
“I hope he recovers soon. I’m sure he’s okay,” Graham said.
Vice President Harris, First Female Test Negative to COVID
Biden, who was vaccinated and received at least two boosts, tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. The positive diagnosis came the day after he traveled to Massachusetts to promote his administration’s actions against climate change, and two days after meeting Ukraine’s first lady, Olena Zelenska.
The president’s doctor, Dr. Kevin O Connor, informed the public that he had a runny nose, was tired, and was experiencing an “occasional dry cough.” To address the symptoms, Biden was prescribed Paxrovid, an antiviral drug used to treat the symptoms of coronavirus.
“I expect him to react favorably, as most maximally protected patients do,” O’Connor wrote in a letter released by the White House.

The White House sought to alleviate Biden’s health concerns by scheduling a press conference. Government officials also explained that the president was working and felt good enough to call a Pennsylvania lawmaker to apologize for having to abandon the event scheduled for Thursday.
“I really appreciate your concern, but I’m doing well and doing a lot of work,” Biden said in a video released by the White House. “In the meantime, thank you for your concerns and keep your faith. It will be okay.”
