Jonathan Papelbon, a thorn on the New York Yankees side when he was at the Boston Red Sox in the mid-2000s, set fire to his rivals on Tuesday.
Following the release of the first episode of ESPN’s Derek Jeter documentary, Papelbon tweeted that the company should do a series on the “real captain” who fought Alex Rodriguez.
“ESPN, let me know when you’re ready to take a documentary about the real captain who whipped A rod A!” Papelbon wrote..

Earlier MLB Closers mentioned a spectacular brawl between Rodriguez and the then Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek in 2004. Varitec pushed the glove into Rodriguez’s face. The series title since 1918 that broke the supposed “Curse of the Bambino”.
Papelbon and Ballitec were teammates from 2005 to 2011.

Papelbon was a four-time All-Star who played 396 games and recorded 2.33 ERA with 509 strikeouts. He was in the Red Sox minor league system when the battle between Ballitec and Rodriguez took place. He will help Boston win the 2007 World Series.

Varitec spent his entire 15-year career in Boston. He hit 193 home runs and hit .256 with .776 OPS. He has won two World Series titles, three All-Stars, one Gold Glove and one Silver Slugger.
