The Miami Dolphins canceled joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday after several players were sidelined with stomach ailments, coach Mike McDaniel said.
“It was a unique curveball early this morning,” McDaniel said.
McDaniel added that “two or more” players have been affected and are exhibiting the usual symptoms of stomach bugs. Several members of the Dolphins staff have been affected and it appears to be contagious, he said.

The Dolphins are currently scheduled to face the Eagles in the preseason finale at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night. It is not yet known which starters will play.
Eagles manager Nick Siriani said no one on the team has shown symptoms of gastroenteritis.
The Eagles and Dolphins held a joint practice on Wednesday, highlighting the prospect of a formidable connection between quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and receiver Tyreek Hill, whom the team traded in the offseason.

Hill caught a touchdown pass over 30 yards from Tagovailoa to beat veteran cornerback Darius Sorey in one play. Sleigh appeared to be dragging his feet and returned to the sidelines with a frown on his face. He was in and out of practice for the rest of the day.
The same quickness and speed that Hill displayed in his career as Kansas City’s chief seemed to cause problems in the Eagles’ secondary on Thursday, as he continued to find a soft spot in wide-open catch coverage.
Tagovailoa, entering his third year in the NFL, demonstrated timing and accuracy in his throws, including getting the ball out quickly in one play when the Eagles sent in a blitz and spreading the ball to multiple receivers.

Eagles receiver AJ Brown, who was traded from the Titans earlier this year, started a joint session of the Eagles first-team offense with a one-handed snag while fending off Dolphins defensive back Xavien Howard.
The Eagles defense stopped most of Miami’s attempts to run the ball. Most of the Dolphins’ rushing attempts were stopped for losses or short-term gains, an extension of their previous run game in the preseason.
“This preseason didn’t work out more than anything because we had a player or two away,” McDaniel said. “Usually I’m a little more comfortable with joint practice than the one-on-one version of the run game, pass game, and defense.”
