Jason Jenkins, senior vice president of communications and community affairs for the Miami Dolphins, died suddenly Saturday, the team announced.
The Dolphins announced his death during a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. I worked at Texas Tech. Jenkins was also instrumental in hosting his F1 Grand Prix, which was held at Rock Stadium earlier this year.

“Our hearts are broken for the loss of a dear friend and a man who was loved by so many,” Dolphins Vice Chairman, President and CEO Tom Garfinkel said in a statement. “Jason served the Dolphins Organization faithfully for 14 years, was a beacon of the community, a trailblazer and champion to others, and most of all, left a lasting mark on everyone he met. Our deepest condolences and our unwavering support go out to his wife, Elizabeth, and his three children.”
“It’s heartbreaking,” said Miami team owner Stephen Ross.
“Jason Jenkins was an icon of the Miami community and above all a kind and incredible family man.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel got emotional after his team’s game.
“This was a healthy, fit guy who brought it in every day…just alive and well,” McDaniel said. “That’s the hardest part. I don’t have words to describe him. has a great family his wife is amazing and his kids it’s hard it’s hard to swallow he’ll miss him he won’t be forgotten i can Say that much.”
Jenkins’ cause of death has not been disclosed.
His family requested privacy at the time. He has his wife Elizabeth and his three children.

Jenkins has served on many South Florida boards, including Anti-Defamation League Florida, Breakthrough Miami, Dolphins Challenge Cancer, Pro Sports Assembly, Broward County Urban League, Women of Tomorrow, and YWCA Miami.
