The Department of Land Security estimates that an average of 441 unaccompanied children will take custody of border guards across the US-Mexico border this year.
According to a document obtained by the Washington Examiner, President Joe Biden’s administration expects 148,000 to 161,000 unaccompanied minors to cross the border in fiscal 2022.
The document allegedly details the response to the influx from the Department of Health and Human Services, which is responsible for bringing unaccompanied minors into the home. US law provides that such minors cannot be sent back across national borders unless they are from Canada or Mexico.
Estimates show a sharp increase compared to 2021, when the US Customs and Border Protection encountered 112,433 unaccompanied minors.

Since Biden took office in January 2021, the number of border crossings has been constantly increasing. As of late April, the DHS predicted an incidence of 18,000 border crossings per day.
The Biden administration has repeatedly tried to dismiss the border surge as an annual pattern. The southern border shows a pattern of increased migration each spring, but the surge in both 2021 and 2022 is much higher than the previous year.
The border guard has revealed it to the Department of Homeland Security. Alejandro Mallorcas in late January said many of them were blaming the Biden administration’s surge policy. Mallorcus visited the border guard in Laredo, Texas on January 29, threatening to boil the meeting as individual agents criticized his policy.
Raul Ortiz, the commander of the US Border Guard, struggled to maintain control as agents accused Mallorcus of “releasing criminal aliens to the country.”
“That’s the problem, the chief,” an agent intervened. “Evil wins is what the good guys do. That’s exactly what’s happening here. The good guys aren’t doing anything. You allow illegal immigrants to be dropped into the community. . “

Ortiz responded by highlighting the organization’s success, especially in fentanyl-based drug eradication efforts.
“And under this administration, last year we had the death of fentanyl, the highest in the history of our country,” another agent argued.
