It’s been years since Derek Jeter was in the infield at Yankee Stadium with cheering fans cheering him on. That all changed at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday night.
Jeter was elected in 2020 but will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in September 2021.
Back in the Bronx, Jeter said it felt like home.
“As you all know, I was born in New Jersey. I grew up in Kalamazoo. Now I live in Miami. It’s a place where you really feel like you’re home,” he said.

Jeter was usually outspoken. Boos continued from fans, but he thanked Hal Steinbrenner and the Steinbrenner family.
Jeter also met fellow Hall of Famers Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettit, Tino Martinez, CC Sabathia and Joe Torre to honor the captaincy. He was also surrounded by his family, including his two of his three daughters.
“I think the one thing you can’t do well enough is to appreciate people, be polite, and appreciate them,” Jeter said.
Yankees’ Oswald Cabrera becomes just the fourth player in franchise history since 1961 to reach the milestone after a walkoff.
“I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to spend 23 years of professional baseball in one organization.I am grateful to have had the opportunity to play with many great players, coaches and managers.I am here today. Those who were and those who couldn’t come.”
After his speech, Jeter said he wanted to return to New York more often.
