Don’t call it Notre Dame Cinderella.
Fighting Irish knocked off No. 9 Overall Seed Texas in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday night after winning No. 1 overall seed in Tennessee at Knoxville’s Super Regional last week.
Maybe Notre Dame (41-15) should be called a favorite.
The Irish will face Oklahoma (43-22) on ESPN2 at 7pm on Sunday. Future SEC member Oklahoma defeated 5th seed and SEC West Champion Texas A & M 13-8 at the CWS opener Friday afternoon. Texas A & M (42-19) will meet with future SEC opponent Texas (47-21) at ESPN at 2:00 pm on Sunday. Texas and Oklahoma are set to depart the Big 12 for the SEC in 2025.

The CWS Double Elimination Opening Round continues on Saturday with three more SEC West teams active. Arkansas (43-19) will play second-placed overall seed Stanford (47-16) at ESPN at 2:00 pm. Auburn (42-20) and Olemis (37-22) will play on ESPN2 at 7pm.
Olemis should be considered Cinderella rather than Notre Dame after receiving the final major bid for the NCAA tournament.

Jared Miller, second baseman at the University of Notre Dame, took the team to the top 1-0, 2-3. It was his first home run as his team beat Texas 11-6, leading 6-1 in 5th place.
“It doesn’t really matter to us whether we are underdogs or expected to win,” said John Michael Bertland, a starting pitcher at the University of Notre Dame. “I don’t know if it really matters to us.”
Bertrand (10-3) allowed 6 hits and 3 runs in 5 innings and 1/3 innings in 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. Rescue Alex Lao and Jack Findlay made a no-hitter no-run in Texas in the last three innings and two-thirds innings. Findlay won his fourth save after two and one-third innings. “I couldn’t be happy with everyone,” said Link Jarrett, director of the University of Notre Dame. “I’m very proud that they were immersed in this atmosphere and performed for the first time in a match against an apparently amazing program.”
Notre Dame won the College World Series match for the first time in 20 years after his last appearance in Omaha under Paul Mainieri in 2002. Notre Dame’s only other CWS appearance was in 1957. The Irish defeated Rice 5-3 by losing to Stanford, 1-2 in the 2002 CWS.

Mainieri is in Omaha to support Notre Dame. He left Notre Dame to coach LSU after the 2006 season, leading to a national title in 2009 and five other trips to Omaha until 2017, after last season following a Super Regional defeat in Tennessee. I retired.
Jarrett was expected to work for LSU with Olemis coach Mike Bianco after last season before LSU hired coach Ja Johnson of Arizona.
