Ernest Albrecht, in his review for The Home News of New Brunswick, New Jersey, wrote, “What this night proved is that theater is not Fuller’s bag.”
But Mr. Fuller continued. In the 1970s he relocated to New York City, where in 1974 he performed with the Negro Ensemble his company staged his drama In the Deepest Part of Sleep, and in 1976 his other play, The Brownsville Raid” kicked off his tenth anniversary season. 1906 shooting by a black soldier in Texas. By the late 1980s, however, he had grown tired of New York and moved to Toronto, where he met his death. In addition to his wife, he has a son, David. four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Soldier’s Play finally hits Broadway in 2020 by Roundabout Theater with a cast that includes Mr. Greer and Blair Underwood. Best Revival was eligible for his Tony, despite having never been produced on Broadway before. This is because, under Tony’s rules, it was considered a “classic” by 2020. Greer himself won a Tony Award for Best Actor.
Greer said on Twitter that Fuller was “extremely honored to have his words performed on both stage and screen,” adding that “his genius will be missed.”
