A federal advisory board said Wednesday that Americans over the age of 65 should be vaccinated with the new flu vaccine.
According to them, regular shots do not adequately protect older people with weakened immunity who do not respond as well as traditional shots.
Shots include Fluzone High-Dose, Fluad with immune booster, or Flublok.
Members said older people should be vaccinated against the flu on a regular basis if new shots are not available.

“These flu vaccines are excellent, but not yet the home run we want,” said Dr. Helen Kape Talbot, a panel member at Vanderbilt University.
The panel’s recommendations are usually adopted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), but this is the first time the government has expressed a preference for influenza vaccines for this age group.
CDC officials reported that last winter’s flu vaccine was only 35% effective in preventing severe flu symptoms that required medical attention.
