Biden’s Secretary of Transport Pete Butigeg accused Republican Senator Marco Rubio of having time to contend with Disney without supporting a bill to codify same-sex marriage.
When appearing on CNN’s State of the Union address, Butigieg, who shares twins with her husband, Chastain Boutezieg, was asked if there was any message to the Senate Republican, Rubio. The vote to codify same-sex marriage was a “stupid waste of time.”
“If he has time to fight Disney, I don’t know why he doesn’t have time to help protect a marriage like me,” Butigeg told CNN host Jake Tapper. “Look, this is really really important to many people. It’s certainly important to me.”
“I started the day trying to do it on the weekend. I give Chasten a little break to have breakfast with both twins. That’s all the parents of the little kids know. As you can see, it’s not a small thing, “Butijeg said. “It was one of those days when the tray table didn’t fit perfectly into the high chair. I’m trying to make sure I’m busy enough with a small cereal puff to give enough time to chop the bananas. Get your prescription ready-and that 30 minutes of my morning made me think about how much I depend on and rely on my spouse every day. ”
Rick Scott imposes Pete Butizig’s “Out of Touch” on electric cars: Americans “can’t accept it”
“And our marriage deserves equal treatment,” he said. “And I I don’t understand why this is difficult for senators and members of the House of Representatives. I don’t understand how the majority of Republicans voted against our marriage on Tuesday, hours after I was in the room where many were talking about transportation policy. They just say on the subject that they aren’t worth going around the corner and continuing my marriage. “
“If they don’t want to spend a lot of time on this, they can vote in favor and move on, and that would be really encouraging for many families across the United States, including mine.” He added.
In the year of the midterm elections, after the Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade case, the Democratic Party has launched a campaign to codify federal protection against contraception and same-sex marriage.
In his opinion, which overturned Roe last month, Judge Clarence Thomas wrote that the court should consider other cases. He referred to a 2015 same-sex marriage right, a 2003 same-sex intimate relationship, and a 1965 ruling confirming the use of contraceptives by couples.
The House of Representatives resolved on Tuesday to codify the federal protection of same-sex marriage, with 47 Republicans joining all Democrats to support the bill. 157 Republicans voted against the so-called “respect for marriage law.”
