Brian Marchment, a San Jose Sharks scout, died suddenly in a long-standing NHL defense, NHL said Wednesday. He was 53 years old.
Details surrounding his death were not immediately revealed. Marchment was preparing for the next NHL draft in Montreal.
“The National Hockey League mourns the deaths of San Jose Sharks scouts and former NHL player Brian Marchment,” the league said. “Our deep condolences are directed at his family, the shark organization, and Brian’s many friends, ex-teammates, and fans.”
Marchment played in the NHL from 1988 to 2006. He was the first round pick of Winnipeg Jets in the 1987 draft. He played on jets from 1988 to 1991.

He also played for Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks, Hartford Whales, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames.

Marchment was survived by his wife Kim and their two children — Mason and Logan.

Mason Marchment finished its second season at the Florida Panthers from 2021 to 22. He scored 18 goals and scored 29 assists in 54 games.
