Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert won twice on the first weekend of Delmar’s summer tournament, three weeks after the 90-day suspension.
Havnameltdown won 21/4 in length at his first career start in the fourth race on Sunday at $ 80,000 on a seaside track north of San Diego. The 2-year-old Colt is owned by longtime Baffert clients Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Waitman.
On Saturday, Baffert won the $ 16,000 claiming race in a 3-year-old Colt Sumo.

They are one of 45 horses that Baffert disembarked from his training base in Santa Anita, near Los Angeles. He did not participate in a favorable stakes race on the first weekend of the tournament, which began on Friday.
On Saturday, Tyba finished second in Baffert’s head at the $ 1 million Haskell Invitational in Monmouth Park, New Jersey.
The long-term suspension of Baffert by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission ended on July 2.

In April, Baffert began offering suspension after failing a post-race drug test involving Medina Spirit, who was first disqualified in the 2021 Kentucky Derby. Baffert was not allowed on the premises of any track and his horse was handed over to another trainer during his absence.

In June, the New York Racing Association suspended Baffert for a year due to repeated dosing breaches, but it did not occur in New York. The punishment for keeping him out of Saratoga, Belmont and the Suidobashi ends on January 26th.
Trainers who have won the Triple Crown twice will remain banned by Churchill Downs for two years and will not be able to compete in the Kentucky Derby for two years. He is suing to overthrow the Louisville railroad tracks.
