Khashoggi was a contributor to the Washington Post, who was killed by Saudi Arabian security officials in 2018. National leadership, including MBS, is suspected of being involved in or approved for this action.
“The killing of Khashoggi was taken up at the beginning of the meeting to clarify what was thought at the time and what is now,” Biden said at a press conference on Friday.
Mr Biden said MBS had heard him and responded during the meeting.
“he [MBS] Basically he said he wasn’t personally responsible for it. I said he was, and he said he was not personally responsible for it, and he took action against the responsible person, “the president added.
Mr Biden then said world leaders “more talked about how dealing with opposition to the criticisms of the Saudi Arabian government in other countries was seen by me as a violation of human rights.”
But the next day, when Biden left Saudi Arabia, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubail said Fox News’ Alex Hogan Biden never mentioned the killing of Khashoggi during his visit.
“I didn’t hear that particular phrase,” said Al Jubail. “The president said the United States is committed to human rights because the founders wrote the Constitution, and he also claimed that the US president was part of the agenda of all US presidents.”
