Houston Astros star Jordan Alvarez exited Houston’s game in the bottom of the fifth inning against the Atlanta Braves after experiencing shortness of breath and was rushed to an Atlanta hospital.
Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters after the game: Brave in-game fireworks Alvarez’s condition worsened.
“He’s being analyzed by doctors,” Baker said Friday night. “They said his vitals are all good. He feels normal, but he still needs to see a doctor.
“He was just short of breath and the smoke made it worse when the fireworks went off.

“He was in the dugout when I looked up, so I’m glad we took him out. It was kind of a scary moment because it could be something. He said he was doing well.
Alvarez was able to finish the game on his own, and Baker told reporters that no one in the dugout knew Alvarez was experiencing symptoms during the game.

“I didn’t see anything,” said Baker. “I looked up at the dugout and he was there. Then we had to take urgent action to find out what was wrong. Then paramedics came and took him to the hospital. I did.”

Alvarez is having a big year for Houston as the Astros have the best 77-44 record in the American League.

“He’s a big part of this team,” Baker said. “He’s the big boy in our middle, so we’re not thinking about losing him. We’re thinking about getting him back. Hopefully he’ll be fine tomorrow.”
