McConnell makes tough predictions about Republicans in Senate election, referencing ‘candidate quality’
The Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), a super PAC that works closely with McConnell, announced last month that it would cut nearly $8 million in advertising on Election Day bookings in Arizona. The move cut almost half of the amount Super PAC planned to spend on the race.
The SLF said the move did not imply a Masters candidacy but was in response to the changing medium-term situation. In particular, Super PACs are choosing to put money into Ohio and other states seen as must-wins for Republican control of the majority.
“While we are keeping our doors wide open in Arizona, we are moving additional resources not only to the unexpected costs in Ohio, but to other offensive opportunities where competition is fierce,” said SLF President Stephen Lowe. “We believe the fundamentals of this election will strongly support the Republican Party, and we believe there are multiple paths to winning a majority, and we are strategically investing heavily to achieve that goal. I intend to do so.”
A source close to McConnell’s orbit pointed out that the SLF is still planning to spend $6 million between now and Election Day. They pointed out that one of his McConnell groups, One Nation, has already spent him more than $5 million on the race. Senator McConnell recently met with Masters to express his support and offer to do everything he can to help him win, a source close to McConnell told Fox News Digital. .
The SLF cut came less than a week after McConnell told audiences in his home state of Kentucky that the chances of a Republican regaining a Senate majority were more difficult than initially expected.

“I think the House is more likely to be overturned than the Senate,” McConnell said. “Senate elections are completely different. Statewide. Candidate quality has a lot to do with results.”
As of July, the Masters had raised $4.8 million to Kelly’s $52 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. This figure does not include external spending from Super PACs and other groups that help candidates.
“We are looking for as much help as we can,” Masters said.
