st. LOUIS (AP) — Albert Pujols hits his 695th homer in the eighth inning, Miles hits his eighth shutout inning, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to Chicago’s Cubs in his second. I won against 0.
Pujols hit a two-run pinch hitter off reliever Brandon Hughes (2-2).
Pujols, a likely future Hall of Famer, has all-time home runs behind Barry Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755), Babe Ruth (714) and Alex Rodriguez (696).

“It’s very special to be able to do that,” Pujols said. “Some nights I make it, some nights I don’t. I just enjoy the night I make it. I want to enjoy it tonight.”
Tommy Edman starts the rally with a one-out double.
“I was 100 percent sure he would find a way to push me,” Edman said. He’s the best right-handed hitter of our generation.”
In his final season, Pujols found a way to succeed in dramatic ways throughout the season.

Chicago manager David Ross said Hughes would have walked Pujols if he fell behind the count.
“You have to trust your men,” Ross said. “I wanted to hit Albert. He just left his one in the middle.”
St. Louis has won four straight in 18 of their last 20 home games, and has a season-high 24-game record of 79-55 above .500. It was the Cardinals’ eighth series sweep of the season.
Chicago lost 7 games in 8 games.
Mikolas (11-10) gave up two hits. He hit three and walked one. Ryan Helsley recorded his 13th save in his 17th chance.
Chicago starter Marcus Stroman allowed four hits in seven innings. He stole his 5 in his 98-pitch stint and failed to walk a hitter.
The start of the game was delayed by 1 hour and 28 minutes due to rain.
