On Tuesday night, the suspect splashed red paint and wrote vulgar messages on the Washington Monument.
The U.S. Park Police arrested a man for vandalism and temporarily closed the area around the base of the monument pending an investigation.
The message seemed to say, “Was this you f—–“. “The government says it’s tough—.”

Honoring the first president, the Washington Monument was the tallest building in the world when it was completed in 1884.

Several monuments in Washington, D.C. were destroyed during the 2020 summer protests, including the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the statue of General Casimir Pulaski.
