Vice President Kamala Harris dodged a question asking if she could explain what she meant when she said the Biden administration would take “fairness” into account when spending natural disaster relief. .
Her comments came after Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm and in South Carolina as a Category 1 storm on Friday. At least 47 of her people died in Florida after the hurricane made landfall. Harris made the comments at the Democratic National Committee’s Women’s Leadership Forum.
“It’s our lowest-income communities and communities of color that are most affected by these extremes,” Harris said. We need to address this in a way that understands that we have to fight not only for justice, but also for fairness.”
When asked if she could clarify her comments in a video obtained by Fox News Digital, she did not respond.

Christina Puchot, the rapid response director for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ campaign, said on Twitter that Harris’ comments were false.

On Friday, the White House said it was working with DeSantis and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide assistance to individuals affected by Hurricane Ian.
When Hurricane Ian made landfall near Cayo Costa, Fla., on Wednesday afternoon, it did not reach Category 5 strength at 2 miles per hour.
