Pope Francis urged more nuances in the debate over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and people were “good” and “bad” in the complex global situation of the ongoing “World War III”. He claimed that creating the label was too fast.
“A few years ago we said that World War III fought little by little,” the Pope told the editor of the press La Civilta Cattolica. “Today, for me, World War III has been declared.”

The Pope also spent time praising the “surviving, conflicting” and “brave” Ukrainian people.
However, he associated the invasion of Ukraine with other conflicts around the world, such as parts of Africa where “war is underway and no one cares.”
“Think of Rwanda 25 years ago. Think of Myanmar and the Rohingya,” he said. “The world is at war.”

“What about humanity who has experienced three world wars in the first century?” He added. “I experienced the first war on the Piave River through my grandfather’s memory, then the second, and now the third. This is bad for mankind and a disaster.”
The Pope held responsibility for arms manufacturers and arms distributors. They claimed they were pleased to see their products being tested in conflict.
