Pope Francis denied rumors that he would resign soon and explained that he hopes to visit Canada this month and then travel to Moscow and Kyiv.
According to media reports, many events in late August, such as talks with cardinals around the world to discuss the new Vatican Constitution and a visit to the Italian city of L’Aquila, could signal resignation in the near future.
L’Aquila is associated with Pope Celestine V, who resigned in 1294. Pope Benedict XVI visited the city four years before his resignation in 2013.
“Some people thought that all these coincidences would have the same’liturgy’,” Francis said in a recent interview with Reuters. “But it never got into my heart. For now, no, for now, no. Really!”
The United Nations has no power, says Francisco
But Francisco said he might resign someday if he was in poor health and couldn’t lead the church, as he had done many times before.
When he believed that such a time would come, he said, “We don’t know. God will say.”
Francis also wrestled with an ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. He said Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had been contacted about the possibility of a trip to Moscow.
The Pope has never visited Moscow, and Francis has repeatedly criticized Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Last week, Francis accused Moscow of waging a “cruel and meaningless war of aggression” against its neighbors.

The Vatican City initially asked about the visit a few months ago, but according to Francis, Moscow said it was not the right time.
However, Francis suggested that the trip might be more likely than it is now.
“i wanna go [to Ukraine]And I wanted to go to Moscow first, “he said.
“And now, after I return from Canada, I managed to get to Ukraine,” he continued. “First of all, I would like to go to Russia and try some form of assistance, but I would like to go to both capitals.”

Francis also referred to a recent US Supreme Court ruling that overturned the Roe v. Wade case. He respected the court’s decision, but said he did not have enough knowledge to talk about the legal aspects of the controversial subject.
He blamed abortion in comparison to “hiring Hitman.”

“I ask: is it legal to eliminate human life to solve the problem, is it correct?” He said.
According to the teachings of the Catholic Church, life begins at the moment of conception.
