Dr. Chris Nowinski, a renowned neuroscientist who specializes in concussions and CTEs, didn’t skimp on dealing with Tua Tagovailoa’s injury during the Miami Dolphins’ loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Tagovailoa hit the ground hard in the second quarter of the game. He was taken off the field on a stretcher and taken to hospital. Iruka later stated that he had been discharged from the hospital and was returning home with the team.
Nowinski was harshly critical of the Dolphins for playing Tagovailoa after being injured and briefly sidelined the Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills. Tagovailoa appeared to have injured his head in trying to get off and stumble. But he said his back was overstretched.

Initially, Nowinski called the injury a “catastrophe”, but then repeated a tweet warning him before the game about the potential consequences if Tagovailoa were injured again.
“Pray for Tua. Fire medical staff and coaches. I predicted this but I don’t think I’m right. Two concussions in five days can kill someone.” This could be career-ending, how are we so stupid in 2022?”
“I don’t rejoice in being right. Pray for Tua. We saw this coming. Be mad. @ConcussionLF for @NFL to make sure this never happens again.” Please join us.”
“He should go to jail for letting him play five days after covering up an obvious concussion. If he dies of Second Impact Syndrome, I will be charged with murder.”
