Scherzer originally injured his oblique angle on May 18 against the St. Louis Cardinals in New York. He returned to the team in his early July, and in 12 games since then he has gone 4-3. For the season, Scherzer went 9-4 in 127.2 innings with a 2.26 ERA.

“The first time we did this, we had one particular location,” added Scherzer. “This is not the case, so this is good. I told them my symptoms, but during the game I had conflicting symptoms. I felt tired. I was throwing the ball well. I have no regrets about how I handled the situation.”

The injury comes at a terrible time for the Mets, who are on a three-game losing streak and leading double digits in the NL East.
