The CDC said this week that an outbreak of Listeria, which killed at least 23 people in 10 states, could be related to Florida.

Listeria monocytogenes, a food poisoning, is usually caused by smoked contaminated dairy products, agricultural products, ham, or fish.

Symptoms such as fever, malaise, and muscle aches usually begin within 1 to 4 weeks of eating foods contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
In this outbreak, 22 people were hospitalized and one died. Five of the infected were pregnant at the time, and one reported fetal loss.
According to the CDC, the actual number of illnesses can be much higher, as some people recover before seeing a doctor.

Health authorities are trying to identify the food that is causing this outbreak.
In 2020, at least 10 people became ill and one died from the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes caused by Delimite. Another outbreak caused by cooked chicken resulted in three hospitalizations and one death last year.
