Think of cookies as a trail you leave behind when you’re online. When you visit our website, a first party cookie is created and stored in your browser. It keeps your login information, shopping cart, and more so you don’t have to enter it every time. First-party cookies also retain your options and settings.
While this is convenient, cookies are also invasive. Businesses use cookies to track where you go and what you do online. They do that on websites other than the one you’re visiting. Advertisers love cookies to help customize the ads they see. If your ads are attractive, they are more likely to click and have a higher ROI.
Pro tip: You can block third-party cookies and other intrusive tools through your browser. There are varying levels of protection, but it’s worth changing the default settings. Tap or click here for tips on changing your privacy settings in some of the most popular browsers.
Blocking third-party cookies and tracking is one thing, but what about not being subject to tracking methods in the first place? That’s where AdChoices and WebChoices come in.

AdChoices is a program of the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA). The DAA is a group of advertising and marketing companies that self-regulate to provide targeted advertising choices. Why would they self-regulate? So, of course, no one else would step in to do it.
Give it a try the next time you see an ad online. Look for the small AdChoices icon. It looks like a blue triangle with a lowercase “i” in the middle.
Click on it to get information about ads and change settings to block them. Not all advertisers participate in this program, but you can tell by looking at the symbols.
