As the U.S. Senate kicked off its budget adjustment vote on Saturday night, one senator took a moment to highlight Congressman Jackie Warorski and members of his staff who died in a car accident this week.
“President, I stand today to honor the lives of the four Hoosiers tragically lost in road accidents this week,” Senator Todd Young (R-India) said on the Senate floor. .
He next named Warorski, 58, who died in a head-on collision Wednesday in Elkhart County, Indiana, communications director Emma Thomson, 28, and district director Zachary Potts, 27. The sole occupant of the other vehicle, 56-year-old Edith Schumacher, was also killed in the crash.
“We are all grieving for them and our prayers are with their families and friends,” Young said. “Like everyone here in Indiana, I am completely heartbroken. .”

“Of course, this is a very difficult time for those of us who know one or more of these Hoosiers, and it’s a very difficult time for their families and friends, and for all of us.
“I think one of the things that hit everyone particularly hard was the passing of two young Congressional staffers. I’m sure you know, if you’re looking at these minutes from Capitol Hill, you’re a hard-working, smart, and dedicated young man, the type who comes to work as a congressman. I dedicate much of my time, talents and other opportunities to serve.”

“While we mourn their loss, we should also celebrate their achievements. This is all thanks to the many congressional staff who are doing far more than the public knows. I think it’s a reminder to do,” Young continued.
Young also recognized his colleagues, who he said had “infectious” self-confidence and “could light up a room.”
“Jackie knew she belonged here. Jackie knew this was her mission,” he said. I didn’t have to tell anyone, but I had a few things to accomplish, so I got to work right away.”

“Her confidence was contagious. Everyone saw it. Everyone was impressed with it. People love being around her and love it, myself included,” Young said. added, “Jackie had many other great qualities.”
“She was always full of energy. She was like lightning. She could light up a room more than anyone else. She was energetic and full of fire. And Jackie had a really big heart, too.”
Young also described Warorski as a “larger-than-life figure” who “inspired and motivated people”.

“It’s safe to say that Jackie’s last breath was spent in service to her voters, her God, the great state of Indiana, and her country.
Warorski’s funeral will be held at Granger Community Church in Granger, Indiana on August 11 at 11:00 AM ET.
