Former President Donald Trump has made a strong statement that he is preparing to run for president, suggesting that an announcement will be made soon.

“It’s certainly not a very long time. The time has come,” the former president said. “I think people will be very happy. Our country has never been in a situation like this. We have lost everything.”

Trump said the United States faces both domestic and foreign policy crises. In particular, he argued that the country’s “prestige” was undermined by President Biden’s failed withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“Our country has never been worse,” Trump said. There has never been a time like this.
“We will make an announcement in the not too distant future,” Trump added.

The remarks came on the heels of CPAC’s release of a straw poll showing Trump’s overwhelming support among conservative grassroots for the 2024 Republican nomination. Trump won nearly 70% of the votes cast at the conference, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis trailed him with 23.7%.

Since leaving the White House in January 2021, Trump has maintained an active presence within the Republican Party.
