Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw was placed on the disabled list on Friday with a hip injury.
Kershaw was ejected during the fifth inning warm-up against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday. Just before he left the match, he was seen saying “my back” to his trainer.
Kershaw, 34, has been plagued with injuries in recent years. He hasn’t made 30 starts since the 2015 season.
This is the 11th IL stint since 2014 and the second this year. Both his IL stints were due to back injuries.

Despite his injury, the three-time Cy Young Award winner has posted similar numbers to previous years during his illustrious career. His ERA is 2.64 for him, WHIP is 0.98 for him, and he has 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings. In his career, he has a 2.49 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and he has 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings.

He also stole two perfect games in the eighth inning this year. Although making his season debut for the first time, he was pulled out in the seventh inning by manager Dave Roberts due to strict pitch counting to prevent injuries.
Kershaw was named an All-Star for the ninth time this summer and started the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium. It was his first first nod at Midsummer Classic.

Kershaw has started 15 games this year, following 22 starts last season.
