Bubba Wallace earned his first career pole position at Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race in Michigan.
He earned a spot in the final round with a lap of 190.703 mph. Wallace was the only driver to break 190 mph in the qualifying session.
“It’s about time,” Wallace said via NASCAR.com. “It took us five years to get our first pole. That’s proof that everyone in the No. 23 team is 23XI.”
“They’ve really done a great job all year. We just haven’t gotten the finish we deserve, but I’m proud of everyone who made it…”

Wallace clinched his first career Cup win at a rain-shortened race at Talladega in October.

The 29-year-old has three consecutive Top 10 finishes and is well-positioned for a fourth Top 10 finish. In his final race at Indianapolis, he started the race from 19th and finished 5th.
He finished second at the Daytona 500 for the second time.
Christopher Bell is next to Wallace, with former cup champions Kyle Busch and Joey Logano behind him.

Wallace is ranked 20th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, 363 points behind leader Chase Elliott.
